After cancer treatment, some caregivers notice that they have trouble setting limits and having their child follow rules. They may find that they feel guilt over what their child has gone through. You may have found yourself being more lax than normal. You may have had a different set of priorities to make sure your child was as comfortable and happy as possible.

Still, it is important to learn how to give helpful directions to set your child up for success and so they learn to follow rules at school, in sports, and beyond! Children also thrive when they know what to expect through routines, structure, and rules.

This session will help you keep directions to a minimum and give good, clear directions. Often, it is better to be warm and responsive than to give too many directions! Part of setting your child up for success is to give them choices and then be prepared to make adjustments based on what is best for your child in that moment. Keep these things in mind throughout this session, as we dive deeper into these topics.

In this session, we will cover:

  • Good directions
  • Limiting directions
  • Modeling
